In celebration of International Women's Month (more or less five months late), Gunship Revolution will be serving up a very special Creation Live! this August with Prima, an workshop starring the amazing, talented women that keep Gunship Revolution from being a total all-boys club.
Do women in general necessarily have a different approach when it comes to art that sets them apart from men? If so, does this "woman's touch" figure into an artist's unique, personal styles? Can a guy truly master the art of romance manga or will that just be weird? We're going to explore these topics and more alongside a brisk, intensive course on illustrating and digital painting traditionally "feminine" styles -

I have no idea how many yaoi-loving followers I have here, but anyway... here's news from that front!

:star: Where's the Rush?: Kickstarter for Laura Carboni's Roulette by kuriousity.ca :star:

... includes updates on the rest of the RUSH artists!

Roulette is one of the titles published in DramaQueen LLC's serial RUSH anthology in 2007. RUSH stopped circulation after only two issues, and writer Tina Anderson OptimisticVoodoo and artist Laura Carboni LauraZel are now looking to publish Roulette as its own book -- but they need support.

OptimisticVoodoo has written further about the situation here:

Kickstarter and RouletteLaura Carboni is a talented artist of our GloBL/Gay comic Roulette.  It's a 80′s erotic-gangster graphic novel that was originally bought for publication by Dramaqueen and ran in RUSH.  Sadly, DQ stopped producing RUSH (and pretty much everything) and the creators were owed money for the work they did.  I was given copies of RUSH to sell – which I did, and sent the funds to Laura in Italy, because things were not looking good for her on the money front.
Things are still tough, and despite a small Italian publisher being interested in Roulette, the work still needs to be complete before Laura will see a Euro.  Unfortunately, she's gone back to drawing for Winx Comics, which is a children's series, and this pays her very little–enough to keep her bills paid; but not enough for her to take time off from that and continue toning her line arts for Roulette.
She's gone to Kickstarter because she wants to take more financial responsibili

If you appreciate with-plot yaoi with incredible art, I invite you to read the extremely smooth and sexy, nosebleed-inducing :star: 67-page first chapter of Roulette online :star:! I promise it will be worth your while. And, if you have the means, please please help Roulette get published, or spread the word!

Thank you for reading!  :iconsobeautifulplz:

In other news, I present the newest members of our studio from school!

Aren't they adorable!? Each one of them, excluding their long tails, is just as large as your thumb. They like to sleep-hide inside the clumps fake grass as well, so: Teeny-tiny Ninja Turtles.   But, how long before they mature and we have to keep them in separate bowls for fear of them tearing each others' throats, no one knows...

Hi Guys! First, I'd like to say, thank you so much for the birthday wishes!!! :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: I wasn't so active on dA last year, and I only got one or two then, from very close friends... So it was a real surprise to receive so many comments, even from people I don't know so well. It really means a lot to me! Thank you so much!!! :tighthug:

Lately, I've had time to resume background work for X-time again. If you ask me what practice I've done these past two years, I'd say: backgrounds -- that I've done, and redone, and redone. I AM NOW INDIFFERENT TO BACKGROUNDS in general.

Aside from X-time and Soul Dice, there is this other important illustration project I'm working on, and I've brought some WIPs! I don't have a lot of time to myself these days, so instead of making all-new illustrations, I've decided to "remaster" some of the old art that I really like, or think are special in some way.

These two have been published in ImagineFX way back in 2006:

I'd like to thank aldenliu for directing the Blue Lady piece. She used to be just a pretty lady with a blank stare, but the piece is more complete now with his input.

This is Venom Fang-related. I ended up really liking the concepts I used, and I've always thought they've gone to waste because I don't show my old art anymore. This is just the opportunity to reclaim them.

I plan to remake as much as I can, but this is all for now! I'm thinking my next update will be about the release of Games with Me... ;)

I'm excited to say that I've finally finished the inks for Games with Me vol. 2!!! :highfive: I still have to to color the cover illustration for the omnibus edition, but anyway, I have until January. Thank you so much for being so patient, Ms. T (OptimisticVoodoo)!

So, all that's left to juggle is (1) X-Time, and (2) Act 2 of Soul Dice! At least, for the rest of December. I'm writing my graduation thesis on Soul Dice, BTW! My professor insisted. Wow! Right?

Our animation takes the priority, of course. When my eyes get tired of looking at the monitor, I would draw manga, and then back to the computer. Add Ikimono Gakari to the mix, and it almost looked like I could make it in time for January updates...

But then Editor-san drops the bomb. My little plastic boat of ignorance and obscure and distant deadlines is once again under the water.

Focus now, focus now, focus.

4/5 of the time, inking and cleaning up Games with Me vol. 2 pages. Thumbnails, but you can't really see what's going on! Haha! I have around 30 pages to go, and I hope to finish the week before Christmas. GOGOGOGOGO!!!

1/5 of the time, experimenting with backgrounds for X-time. There's not enough time to make it more detailed cos I have like... 25 more of these to make!? Plus I have to redo 15 other backgrounds with a different style than this for the 'alternate universe'... D: All this with five months left to finish the three-minute animation. WTH!?

My first batch of indies ever. Ever. TT___TT Imperfect in the sense that they printed much darker than the originals, but, ah, here they are. The first Minibook contains the Prologue as well as Act I of our webmanga Soul Dice, a total of 36 pages. If anyone's interested in getting a copy, I'll be selling some of these for USD 3.5 including shipping. Note me.

Rei will be printing copies of these to be sold at the Philippine KOMIKON this November.

kurohiko is printing and selling our first Minibook at the Philippine KOMIKON on November 19. Meanwhile, I've been doing some print tests of my own. It's so inconvenient and more expensive than it should be -- I wish I had my own copy machine.

The pages came out much darker than they look onscreen, yet the black parts aren't black. Also, the tones have been resized by the printer so there's nothing spot-on about that. Normally, I would be freaking out over the frequency of the dots, but right now, I'm too tired to care. I hope you guys don't mind... It's not that obvious, anyway.

I'm going to finish our thesis storyboard now, since I'm starting to feel the pressure creeping in, i.e. people around us are starting to make progess.

The day after, I'll continue with inking Games with Me. I have about 35 pages to go, that I still plan to finish this year. This is still the same photo as the last time.

After I finish all that, maybe I'll be able to work on other illusts, as well as the second chapter of Soul Dice. Speaking of Soul Dice, we just broke 200 subscribers! Thanks a lot, everyone.

I want to draw something for Halloween but I don't have time. I like have a zit on my face for every project I'm working on right now. I think I'll start drinking tea tomorrow... >___>;;;

Dealing with Style Shift...

Thu Oct 6, 2011, 9:04 PM
Online Portfolio | To-Do-List
Soul Dice manga |  LJ |  Tumblr | y!Gallery

I have a confession to make. Until today, there was something stopping me from inking Games vol. 2 properly, and that was the blatant skill / style shift in-between book 1 which was finished in 2008 and book 2 which I'm inking right now.

Actually, I have trouble looking through my old work in fear of disappointing myself. I've never looked through the pages of volume 1 until last night, and to my surprise, I wasn't so put off by it. I always thought that it was Ms. T's professional scripting and paneling that saved my art, but even though the inks were overly simple, it really felt as though I really worked hard on it as well... All the lines seemed calculated and in place, and it's obvious I wasn't taking book two as seriously as I took book one.

In short, I've decided I must absolutely work hard on book two as well. I've been going back to add teeny details in the pages I've inked before and am going to rescan. This way, even though there's a shift in the art style, the amount of effort will be consistent. I am looking to finishing this book before well the end of the year.

PS. Anyone know any good TV series I can watch / listen to while inking? :la:
